The City of Brewer continues to grow each year and while the city typically focuses on manufacturing businesses, the Waterfront is becoming a hot commodity.

The year 2009 was not the best to purchase a company that builds kilns that dry lumber. But despite a lagging, post-recession economy and depressed housing market, Ton Mathissen and a group of investors saw what Nyle Corp. in Brewer could become.

I got my first real part-time job when I was 15 years old, in 1995, bussing tables at this crazy new restaurant concept called a brewpub. By then, the brewpub was already well on its way to remaking the American dining scene, but it was still a novel concept in my corner of cow-country Wisconsin: a casual place where the menu was nonetheless thoughtful and hip, where you could probably wear sandals but might also conceivably take a date, where grown-ups were drinking house-brewed beers and watching sports and being jocular, but which also had crayons for the kids and servers who occasionally busted out a chorus of “Happy Birthday.”

There comes a time in every young brewery’s life when there’s a choice to be made: stick with bottles, or switch to cans? Not every brewery that distributes its product makes the switch, but for those that do, it brings with it a whole new world of possibilities.

Cianbro will likely be hiring employees at its Brewer manufacturing facility to build parts for a refinery next year.

S.J. Rollins Technologies, which specializes in Cloud Hosting, Managed Services, Network Security and Telecommunications, will celebrate the opening of its new location 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at 508 Wilson St.

City officials unveiled a pair of new outdoor chess tables along the ever developing and expanding waterfront riverwalk.

BREWER – Somic America, a supplier of suspension and steering components was recognized with an Excellent Recognition award from Toyota Motor North America, Inc. at its Annual Supplier Business Meeting on March 21. Held at the COBO Center in Detroit, ABM brings together approximately 850 supplier representatives from across North America.
