Firefighter/EMT

The City of Brewer, Maine is seeking a fire fighter to join the ranks of Brewer’s bravest. If you are a highly motivated individual who is organized and task orientated, all while having the ability to work in a close team environment then this is the place for you.  Duties include EMS response, fire suppression & prevention, and rescue & equipment operations on two (2) 24-hour shifts per week.

The minimum qualifications for this position include, high school diploma or GED equivalent, valid Maine driver’s license, and must establish and maintain a residency within 30-minutes of the Brewer Fire Station. NREMT-B license, Pro Board firefighter 1& 2 certifications, NIMS 100, 200, & 700.  Successful candidates are required to pass a written exam, with an oral board.  Complete a physical agility test, and be in excellent physical health as confirmed by a licensed medical doctor.

Employment is subject to the candidate passing a pre-employment physical, drug screening, driver’s license verification, and background check. Preference will be given to military veterans and to candidates holding a valid State of Maine EMS license or State of Maine Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications.

 City of Brewer- Public Works 
Heavy Equipment Operator 

The City of Brewer, Maine is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual to fill the position of Heavy Equipment Operator with the Brewer Public Works Department.  This is a dynamic and versatile department responsible for much of the city’s infrastructure including the maintenance and construction of streets, sidewalks, storm water, and sewer systems. 

Besides equipment operation daily assignment typically includes street sweeping, line painting, ditching, culvert repairs, sign maintenance, storm and sewer basin repairs, snow plowing (winter months), repairing potholes, curbs, and sidewalks, depending on the needs of the City.  Larger projects such as water or sewer line replacement; grading for parks, ball fields, or parking lots; and building demolition projects may be performed in any given year.          

The ability to effectively operate a variety of heavy and light equipment, such as excavator (tracked and rubber tired), backhoe, bulldozer, loader, or grader; working on construction type projects for road reconstruction, water and sewer system repairs and installation, sidewalk construction, and masonry type work, as well as snow removal operations is highly desirable. We are willing to provide additional training to a candidate who has enthusiasm to learn, a desire to take initiative and responsibility, and is a motivated, self-starter.

Ideal candidates will have a Class B Maine commercial driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 6-months of hire, and a high school diploma. The selected candidate must be able to successfully pass a pre-hire physical, drug screening, and background check.

City of Brewer- Public Works Department
Temporary Summer Employment

The Brewer Public Works Department is seeking to hire individuals to serve as our temporary full-time Summer Crew. 

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain valuable work experience, or bridge gaps in their current employment.  Prior experience with sidewalk paving, line painting, and/or lawn repair is desirable, however, we are willing to provide the necessary training for those candidates who demonstrate the desire to learn and have a positive team-orientated attitude. 

If you are a hardworking and dependable individual who enjoys working outside on a variety of construction and maintenance related tasks, then this is the place for you.  

A typical workweek is 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday – Friday with occasional weekends and/or overtime. All applicants must be at least 17 years of age and able to pass a pre-hire drug screen test, license, and background check.
