Technology Director

The successful candidate will have the ability to anticipate and plan for future technological needs across all city departments, as well as responding to IT related issues. This position oversees software and hardware development and maintenance, and serves as the system Administrator.

The director manages technology office functions such as budgeting, purchasing, accounts payable, and inventory control. 
Experience with government software such as Munis, Vision, and WatchGuard is desirable.

City of Brewer- Environmental Services 
Environmental Services Director

The City of Brewer is seeking a highly organized individual with strong leadership and communication skills to fill the position of the Environmental Services Director.

The successful candidate will lead an award-winning facility with first class employees, who are experts in their individual areas of responsibility. 

This position reports to the City Manager and is responsible for the direct oversight and supervision of a Grade V secondary biological treatment plant with fourteen lift stations and over 53 miles of sewer line with 1,400 manholes.  The Director oversees the inspection and maintenance of 65 miles of stormwater collection line with 1,600 catch basins.  Currently all water that enters the stormwater collection system is safely discharged into the Penobscot River with limited treatment as part of the City’s MDEP license to discharge stormwater.

This is a full-time position, with a competitive annual salary and benefits package. Qualifications include experience with operating a conventional activated sludge treatment process in a Grade V Treatment plant with 5 or more year’s supervisory experience within a Grade V system; or 10 or more years’ experience in wastewater treatment plant supervision.  Out of state candidates with similar and transferrable qualifications will be accepted.  A college degree in a related field is desirable and/or a relevant combination of experience and education.          

The successful applicant will possess excellent customer-service skills; the ability to direct, train, mentor, and motivate a diverse team of employees; capable of planning and administering treatment plant upgrades, combined sewer separation projects, and sewer line replacement projects.  The demonstrated ability to write, interpret and evaluate reports, statistics, as well as federal and state regulations is mandatory.

Equipment Operators

The City of Brewer, Maine is seeking a team-oriented individual with a good work ethics and attitude to fill the positions of Light and Heavy Equipment Operators with the Brewer Public Works Department.  This is a dynamic and versatile department responsible for much of the city’s infrastructure including the maintenance and construction of streets, sidewalks, storm water, and sewer systems.

If you seek a position where you can work outside in a team environment; learn a vast variety of skills; work with and around heavy equipment; have a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, in the summer months; don’t mind working extended hours during the winter months; have 13 paid holidays per year, along with other earned time off; feel secure about your employment; and have a very comprehensive benefit package which includes a stable retirement fund, then a position with the Brewer Public Works Department is what you are looking for.

Ideal candidates will have a State of Maine Class B (CDL) operator’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 6-months of hire, and a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Candidates applying for Heavy Equipment Operator should also have a minimum of 6 years’ experience operating a variety of equipment including excavator, bull dozer, front end loader, and grader. Selected candidates must be able to successfully pass a pre-hire physical, drug screening, and background check.

Community Center Maintenance/ Custodian

The City of Brewer, Maine is seeking an organized, motivated, and team focused individual for the position of Community Center Maintenance/Custodian.  This position performs a variety of general maintenance and repairs at the Joseph L. Ferris Community Center, as well as cleaning and disinfecting of all areas of the community center.  As a member of the Brewer Parks and Recreation Department, the successful candidate will join a positive, dynamic workplace dedicated to providing superior recreational programs. 

This position is directly responsible for ensuring the Community Center is well maintained, cleaned, organized, and ready or a variety of events, activities, and diverse public uses. Knowledge of best practices and procedures for building maintenance and cleaning is desirable; however, the City of Brewer is willing to train the right candidate.  The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently, as well occasionally supervising part-time employees and/or volunteers.  The minimum qualifications for this position include, high school diploma, or GED equivalent, and State of Maine driver’s license.    For a full description of this position please click here.
