The Brewer Public Works Department is now taking applications for summer employees to help with various work activities during the summer months such as sidewalk paving, line painting, lawn repairs etc. We are looking for hard working, dependable individuals who enjoy working outside on a variety of task in a team environment.
These are 40 hour per week positions, Monday through Friday with occasional overtime. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age, 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license is preferred.

Light Equipment Operator
The City of Brewer, Maine is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual to fill the position of Laborer/Light Equipment Operator. The Brewer Public Works Department is dynamic and versatile department responsible for much of the city’s infrastructure including the maintenance and construction of streets, sidewalks, storm water, and sewer systems.
Experience with operating a variety of light equipment, working on construction type projects, as well as basic carpentry and masonry skills, and snow removal operations are highly desirable. However, we are willing to provide training to a candidate who has enthusiasm to learn and is a highly motivated, self-starter. The candidate selected for this position should already have a valid Class B Maine Commercial driver’s license, or have the ability to obtain one within 6-months of hire. Candidates must have a high school diploma, or a G.E.D. equivalent, in order to apply for this position. Collection Systems Supervisor
The City of Brewer is seeking an organized, motivated, team focused individual to fill the full-time Collection Systems Supervisor position with the Environmental Services Department. This Department is a positive, dynamic workplace with highly dedicated crew members who strive for daily service excellence.
This position is responsible for the management of a three-person crew overseeing the operation and maintenance of the City’s sewer and stormwater collection systems. All work is performed to meet federal, state and local regulations.
The successful candidate will have excellent computer and communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain a positive attitude within a team environment. They should also have six years of collection systems experience and a New England Grade 2 Collection Systems license, or the ability to obtain this license within one year.
Two years of collection systems supervisory experience is highly preferred along with a Class B license and GIS experience. The City is willing to provide training and support for the right candidate with relevant work experience.
