Yard sales are permitted under the Governor’s Safer at Home guidelines.
A permit is required to hold a yard / lawn / garage / moving sale. Each address or person is allowed three sales per year, the third having to be at least 45 days after the second sale. Each sale may last for up to three consecutive days.
Yard sale permits are $3.00.
To obtain a permit:
Options to obtain a permit while access to City Hall is by appointment:
- Walk into Brewer City Hall Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm. Yard sale permits can be obtained in the Tax Office on the lower level of City Hall.
- Mail or leave in the payment drop box* the $3 permit fee along with your name, phone number, mailing address, and location and dates of the sale. We will mail the permit to you or you can arrange to pick it up.
- Pay your $3 permit fee online (a $1.95 convenience fee will apply) at paylocalgov.com/cityofbrewer-me/. Payment Type = Finance-Misc Payments. In the Other Information section, use the Invoice Number field to list the location of the sale and the Type of Payment field to list the dates of the sale.
*The payment drop box is located just outside the lower level door to Brewer City Hall (the one that faces North Main Street).
If you do not hold your sale at all due to inclement weather, you can call the Tax Office at 207.989.7060 and provide us an alternate date for the sale. However, if you set up your sale—even if only for a partial day—you are considered to have held your sale.
