City Hall has a payment drop box available 24/7 located
outside the lower level door (the one that faces North Main Street).
Do you need help making water or sewer payments?
Maine Housing Authority has created a federally funded program to help income-
eligible Maine residents and renters pay their past due water and/or sewer bills.
Residents and renters may be eligible for a payment of up to $500 to be credited
towards a current or future water/sewer bill. All payments will be made directly to the City of Brewer to be applied to the appropriate account.
To see if you are eligible and to apply, click the “learn more” icon. The City of Brewer also has applications in the Tax Office located on 80 North Main Street.
Sewer and water are billed together on a quarterly basis. Bills are mailed by the Water Department on or around the 1st of March, June, September and December and are due by the end of that month.
Payment Options
- Pay online anytime, from the comfort of your own home, with an E-Check, Debit, or Credit Card. Click here to get started. MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express are accepted, though a convenience fee will apply.
- Pay in person at the Tax Office at Brewer City Hall (lower level), Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. We take cash and checks. We also now accept credit and debit cards, though a convenience fee will apply.
- Mail a check or money order made payable to “City of Brewer” to: Tax Office – Brewer City Hall, 80 North Main Street, Brewer, ME 04412. Please do not mail cash. Including the remit slip and/or the bill number will help ensure that we post your payment to the appropriate account.
- The Water Department does not accept payment at its offices.
Payment Policy
Payments will be applied to the oldest outstanding balance. View the City’s payment policy for more detail.
Unpaid bills
Sewer: Interest is charged on unpaid sewer balances after the end of the month. Some time four months to one year after a bill’s due date, the City will place a lien on the property associated with unpaid sewer balances.
Water: Unpaid water accounts will receive a shut-off notice if the account remains unpaid after the end of the month. After 90 days, the Water Department will place a lien on the property with unpaid water bills.
Outside Water Use
We recognize that many residential customers use water outside during the summer months. If the water used outside does not enter the sewer system, it is possible to receive an adjustment to your sewer bill if you participate in the
Residential Submeter Program. Click the link to learn more.
