Brewer to Expand Riverwalk Trail

Print
Brewer’s waterfront has a new name and plans to expand.

The path along the Penobscot will now be officially be known as the Brewer Riverwalk Trail.

City councilors made the change at Tuesday’s meeting.

They also approved plans to use money from a federal grant to continue construction.

The path would run from the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge to the Veterans Remembrance Bridge more than a half-mile away.

Last summer DOT crews paved the trail complete with lights, rails, and plants.

Local leaders say it’s a source of pride in the community.

Mayor Jerry Goss said, “Everybody is raving about Brewer’s River Walk and just how beautiful it is and how peaceful it is down on the river and we will be moving tonight as a council into phase two, so it will virtually double the size of our river walk.”

They’d like to break ground by next spring.

Also at that meeting, the council approved an order to accept money on behalf of the police department.

Money made through the sale of a home used to deal drugs will help police prevent similar crimes.
