BREWER, Maine — The city clerk’s office, located at 80 N. Main St., will be open from 6 to 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples on the first day they can be obtained under a law passed by voters Nov. 6.

Those are the same hours Bangor City Hall will be open.

Brewer’s decision to be open Dec. 29 was announced at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

Brewer joined Bangor, Portland, Augusta, Hallowell, Gardiner and Brunswick on the list of Maine communities that have announced they will open the morning of Dec. 29 to issue licenses to couples who wish to marry.

EqualityMaine is compiling a list of municipalities that will hold office hours that day, spokesman David Farmer said Wednesday. He urged those looking to obtain marriage licenses to call their town office to see if they will be open Dec. 29.
