Thursdays in the Archives: Joshua Chamberlain’s Promotion

Civil War historian and author Brian F. Swartz will present a lecture on Joshua Chamberlain on Thursday, October 6th at 7PM on Zoom. His program will focus on Chamberlain’s battlefield promotion to Brigadier General and the Senate resolution bestowing that title, which the library has in its collection.
A Brewer native and a Bangor Daily News reporter and editor for 27 years, Brian launched his Maine at War column in April 2011 and his weekly Maine at War blog in March 2012. Brian and his wife, Susan, live in Hampden.

Thursdays in the Archives: Siege at the Statehouse

Brewer Public Library will host a talk by author Mac Smith on Thursday, November 3rd at 7:00 PM, Smith will speak about his new book Siege at the State House, which tells the true story of a coup that was attempted between Maine’s governor and the leaders of a new political party, almost plunging the United States into its second Civil War.
A Navy veteran of the first Gulf War and former reporter for The Bar Harbor Times, Mac Smith now lives in Stockton Springs, Maine, in the village of Sandy Point. He is also the author of Mainers on the Titanic and Peyton Place Comes Home to Maine.
