The Ken Locke Annual Stream Clean-up 2022

May 7, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Spring is here and with that comes spring cleaning!  We are excited to announce that the City of Brewer’s Stream Clean- up Committee is planning the 2022 event.  This year’s event is being held in recognition of former WPCF Director Kenneth Locke. Ken was a driving force behind all of our community outreach programs and was particularly fond of stream clean-up.

The City of Brewer has held this event since 2004, making this our 18th year!  Our stream clean-up event is recognized as one of the most successful in Maine. Volunteers have consisted of local families & business leaders, church groups, youth groups such as Boy Scout & Girl Scout troops, senior assisted living centers and school groups (including high school students looking to get community service hours). We provide all the necessities to get the job done and assign a team leader to each group.  Each year we try collect as much trash as we can to help protect our water quality.  Last year volunteers collected 1.37 TONS of trash!  Our goal is to collect a record amount this year, but we will need your help!

The Ken Locke Annual Stream Clean-up event will take place Saturday, May 7th (rain date Saturday, May 14th) from 8AM-12PM starting at the Joseph L. Ferris Community Center.  Directly following the event, we invite all of our volunteers to join us for our Appreciation Picnic provided by Jeff’s Catering!

We hope that you or your organization/group plan to join us this year!  If you are interested in volunteering contact our Environmental Services Team by emailing or calling 207-989-5417.  Please RSVP no later than Friday, April 29th so that we can send along additional details and updates as we get closer to the big day!
