Civil War historian and author Brian F. Swartz will present the well-illustrated program “Maine and Brewer Help Save the Union in 1861 and 1862” at the Brewer Public Library at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, March 18. His program will focus on how Maine and Brewer responded when civil war tore apart our country in the early 1860s.

The Brewer Public Library will host a Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance (MWPA) workshop led by critically acclaimed, award-winning author Megan Frazer Blakemore. Attendees will peel back the rosy layers of nostalgia and explore how to write authentically for children and teens. Through readings, film clips, and writing exercises, attendees will gain a better understanding of voice as it relates to children and teens. FEE: $50 for MWPA members; $110 for non-members.
