Message from the City Engineer

Date:  September 20, 2021

Dear Brewer Resident/Business:

The City will be replacing an over 100-year-old section of storm drain at the intersection of Parker and North Main Street beginning in the next few weeks.  The contractor doing the work will be Lou Silver, Inc of Veazie, Maine.  They are currently planning to do the work during the month of October.  In order to reduce the impact on traffic, the contractor is planning to do two nights of overnight work to get across North Main Street.  The contractor is expecting that two nights will be enough to complete the work as long as no delays are encountered during construction.  The current plan is to do the work on the nights of October 19th and 20th.  Please check the City website ( for updates to the Contractor’s schedule, throughout construction.

During the planned night work, the contractor will be closing off North Main Street from Parker Street to State Street during the hours of 7pm to 5am.  A detour will be in place that will take vehicles around the site by use of Betton, Penobscot, and State Streets.  Flaggers will be at each intersection to direct traffic through the detour.  During this closure, Penobscot Street from Church Street to the municipal parking lot will be closed to local traffic only.  The municipal parking lot at the corner of Betton and Penobscot Streets will be closed at 7pm on the nights of construction and will reopen the following morning.

We will also be replacing approximately 200’ of storm drain going down Parker Street.  This work will be done during normal daytime working hours.  During the time that the contractor is replacing this section, Parker Street will be closed to local traffic only from East Summer Street to North Main Street.  The contractor will work with all the area businesses and residents to provide access to and from driveways when needed.

We will be providing updates as the time of construction approaches on the City website.  Should you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact Jeremy Caron or Mike Tupper at the City of Brewer Engineering Department at 989-8430.
