The City of Brewer will be expanding the curbside leaf collection, starting November 13th, to include tree debris to help residents cleanup from the October 30th storm. Residents can place their tree debris roadside along with their leaf bags, please keep the two separated. When piling the tree debris please do not place the pile directly under wires, in ditches or too close to other obstacles, such as mailboxes or fire hydrants. The tree debris place roadside for collection should be no longer than 6’ to 8’ in length.

Along with the expansion of the leaf collection program, the Brewer landfill will be extending it’s hours on Tuesdays, from 7 – 11:30am to 7 – 2:30pm along with being open on Saturdays until November 18th.

Zero Sort Recycling

PAYT and Recycling Results 2009-2012

What is Zero Sort recycling?

Zero Sort recycling is a system in which a wide variety of recyclables are collected together without having to separate them. Paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, aluminum, tin cans and more can be tossed all together into one bin.

How do I participate?

Place a free “Recycling” sticker (available at City facilities) on any container, fill it with acceptable materials and place curbside every other week on the same day as your trash pickup.

Acceptable Materials:

Click below for a detailed list of acceptable and unacceptable Zero Sort recycling materials.

Recycling Containers:

Residents can put recyclables into any container, including garbage cans, totes, barrels, cardboard boxes, etc. Please try to use containers with lids so that recyclables do no blow away on windy days. Reusable containers should be clearly identified as RECYCLING containers. “Recycling” stickers are available for free at various City facilities, including Public Works, the Brewer Landfill, the Library, Water Pollution Control Facility, and the City Hall Tax Office. The City is no longer providing recycling bins to residents. Our hope is that people will be recycling so much of what they currently throw away that one or more of their current garbage cans can be re-tasked to hold recyclables.

Curbside Recycling Collection Schedule:

Recycling will be picked up every other week on the same day as your trash.

Which properties receive curbside collection services?

The City provides curbside collection of municipal solid waste and recyclables to residential properties, which are properties containing at least one, but not more than four (4) dwelling units. Commercial properties, which include trailer parks and apartment buildings with more than 4 units, must dispose of trash and recycling at their own expense.

Recycling Drop-Off Center:

Effective 5-26-14
Single stream recycling for Brewer residents will be exclusively curbside
(every 2 weeks)
