Appraisal Technician 

The City of Brewer, Maine is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with strong communication skills to fill the full-time position of Appraisal Technician.  

The successful candidate will have experience in the appraisal and valuation of real and personal property.  Prior experience working in a municipal, or public setting, is desirable; however, individuals with private sector experience in residential and commercial property appraisal are encouraged to apply.  Certification as a State of Maine CMA or commensurate experience in a related field is preferred.

Proficiency with computer software, including Vision, GIS, Munis, and Trio Assessing is desirable.  Must have the ability to work independently and with a team across multiple departments, as well as effectively communicate assessing questions to the general public.  Duties will include maintaining city records; reading and interpreting deeds, probate and court records; property inspections, data entry, maintaining maps, correspondence and customer service; and providing administrative support.

Environmental Services Technician 

The City of Brewer, Maine is seeking a team-oriented individual with a good work ethics and attitude to fill the position of an Environmental Services Technician with the Brewer Public Works Department.  The Environmental Services Technicians are responsible for the general inspection and maintenance of all underground sanitary sewer and storm drain systems.

Ideal candidates will have a State of Maine Class B (CDL) operator’s license with a tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within 6-months of hire; a class 1 & 2 collection systems operator’s license, or the ability to obtain them within 3 years and a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.  Selected candidates must be able to successfully pass a pre-hire physical, drug screening, and background check.

Candidates applying for Heavy Equipment Operator should also have a minimum of 6 years’ experience operating a variety of equipment including excavator, bull dozer, front end loader, and grader. Heavy Equipment Operator 

The City of Brewer, Maine is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual to fill the position of Heavy Equipment Operator with the Brewer Public Works Department.  This is a dynamic and versatile department responsible for much of the city’s infrastructure including the maintenance and construction of streets, sidewalks, storm water, and sewer systems. 

Daily assignments typically include street sweeping, line painting, ditching, culvert repairs, sign maintenance, storm and sewer basin repairs, snow plowing (winter months), repairing potholes, curbs, and sidewalks, depending on the needs of the City.  Larger projects such as water or sewer line replacement; grading for parks, ball fields, or parking lots; and building demolition projects may be performed in any given year.          

The ability to effectively operate a variety of heavy and light equipment, such as excavator (tracked and rubber tired), backhoe, bulldozer, loader, or grader; working on construction type projects for road reconstruction, water and sewer system repairs and installation, sidewalk construction, and masonry type work, as well as snow removal operations is highly desirable. We are willing to provide additional training to a candidate who has enthusiasm to learn, a desire to take initiative and responsibility, and is a motivated, self-starter.

Ideal candidates will have a Class B Maine commercial driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 6-months of hire, and a high school diploma.
